Xona Licensing FAQ
What is a Xona license and how do they work?
Each Xona device requires installation of a unique license tied to an entitlement defined in a purchase order to Xona Systems. The entitlement specifies an expiration date (typically 1 year) and a specific number of connectable assets.
Each Xona device is associated with a unique System ID, also known as the Installation ID, or the System UUID. The acronym UUID stands for Universally Unique Identifier.
Licenses are typically provided as individual file. With Xona v5.5.2, it is also possible to license Xona devices in-bulk via the XCM.
Attempts to install a license for a non-matching System ID will be rejected.
How are production licenses requested?
Please see the KB articles listed below for specific directions on requesting a Xona license. Generally, licenses are requested at support@xonasystems.com and will require verification. Typical turnaround time is 1 business day. Existing licenses may need to be replaced when Xona devices are replaced or migrated to new hardware platforms.
- Administration: Requesting and Applying System Licenses for Individual Xona Devices
- Administration: Requesting and Applying System Licenses for Multiple Xona Devices via XCM
Does Xona have a default license?
By default, Xona devices come with an evaluation license. The default evaluation license provides all functionality but is limited to only 2 connectable assets and a 1 year term. Clicking on the License page's "Clear License" button will cause this default license to be automatically renewed and re-installed.
Will a factory reset require a replacement license?
When a Xona administrator uses the Factory Reset (Keep Network) option, the existing license will be retained. When the Xona administrator uses the Factory Reset option, the existing license will be cleared and replaced with the default license.
What happens before a Xona license expires?
Before a license expires, all users will see a banner stating that the license will expire within 30 days.
