What is the ‘Relay’ connection and when/why would I use this connection type?

The ‘Relay’ connection is an “on-demand firewall” connection for providing a secure connection for client to host or host to host where using RDP, VNC or SSH is not feasible.  For example, a proprietary client application that needs to connect ‘serial over IP’ to a specific operational technology.
